Matt suffered a life-changing brain injury following a haemorrhagic stroke, leaving him unable to walk and with no function in his left arm. He underwent intensive rehabilitation at Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre, where specialist support helped him regain movement and independence beyond what doctors had expected. Determined and resilient, Matt left Frenchay walking again with the aid of a quad stick, with his left-side deficit greatly improved, and has since returned to work and his everyday life.
Ali experienced severe paralysis below the collarbone following nitrous oxide abuse, leaving him unable to walk or care for himself independently. He underwent 12 weeks of intensive rehabilitation at Hunters Moor, regaining strength, mobility, and confidence with the support of the team. Determined and resilient, Ali has since returned to independent living, having regained 80% of his mobility and been fully discharged home to his family.
After suffering a sudden subarachnoid haemorrhage while on holiday abroad, Isaac faced a long and complex recovery complicated by hydrocephalus, prolonged critical illness and pre-existing mobility issues. When he arrived at Nottingham Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Neurological Care Centre in May 2025, he required full support for mobility, personal care and daily activities.
Through intensive multidisciplinary rehabilitation, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychology and assistive technology, Isaac has made significant progress in both his physical and cognitive recovery. He can now stand with assistance, walk short distances and complete parts of his daily routine independently, while working towards his goal of returning home and regaining independence.
Alan experienced rare, severe spinal cord compression from a calcified slipped disk in 2018, requiring complex neurosurgery that resulted in a life-changing spinal cord injury. He continues rehabilitation, physiotherapy, and pain management while fundraising for additional support. Determined and resilient, Alan strives to improve his mobility and overall quality of life.
Nick, 63, was admitted to Hothfield Neurological Rehabilitation Centre in June 2025 for a four-week inpatient programme, following a brain haemorrhage the previous year. On admission, he had limited movement and sensation on his left side, with postural issues affecting both his left arm and leg.
Using technology including the ArmMotus™ M2 Pro and Luna EMG, Nick’s reach (measured using his chosen task of getting something out of the cupboard) improved from 98cm to 384cm and his active movement ratio from 29.4% to 60.4%. Nick exceeded most rehabilitation goals and regained much of his independence.
