Michael began his career at Nottingham Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre as an Activity Coordinator. During his role, Michael began working with occupational therapists. He was fascinated by the use of elements of psychology alongside practical interventions within a framework of function. Michael decided to retrain in occupational therapy at Derby University and left the company briefly to begin his occupational therapy practice.

Two years later, an occupational therapy role became available at Nottingham Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre which Michael applied for and was successful.

Michael then worked his way up until an opportunity arose for the Head of Therapies role.
