Active Neuro Blackheath London
Location Overview
Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre in South East London is an established provider of specialist inpatient rehabilitation for individuals with an acquired brain injury or other complex neurological condition. We are committed to ensuring the people we support feel safe, happy and empowered.
At Blackheath, we are specialists in the treatment of people from the age of 18 with physical and cognitive impairments and neuropsychiatric disorders resulting from a brain injury or other neurological condition. We support the individuals in our care through assessment, rehabilitation and care across two services – the Thames Brain Injury Rehabilitation Service (21 beds) and the Heathside Service (18 beds).
Every person we support is cared for by a specialist multi-disciplinary team (MDT), bringing together nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, clinical psychologists and social workers, supported by consultants in rehabilitation medicine. Our team works closely together to ensure that everyone is working towards the same practical, realistic goals, with therapies focused on the areas that will help each individual achieve them.

Our specialist facilities are designed to support intensive rehabilitation and maximise independence, including a dedicated rehabilitation gym, therapy kitchen and accessible spaces for therapeutic and recreational activities. We deliver person-centred rehabilitation with a strong evidence base, incorporating individual goal setting. Facilities include:
- 39 bedrooms
- Ensuite toilet and sinks
- Recreational equipment
- Therapy kitchen
- Gymnasium
- Spasticity management
- Rehabilitation technology
- Communal spaces for activity
- Accessible gardens

Patient Story: Rob’s Story
Rob experienced a hypoxic brain injury following a cardiac arrest, leaving him unable to walk, speak clearly, or care for himself independently. He underwent eight and a half months of intensive rehabilitation at Blackheath, regaining his mobility, speech, and everyday skills with the support of the multi-disciplinary team. Determined throughout his recovery, Rob has since returned home to his family, having made a good recovery beyond his own expectations.
Active Neuro Blackheath London Reviews
I was admitted to Blackheath in a wheelchair following CIDP. The nurses were welcoming and professional, and my physiotherapist worked a miracle getting me walking again. I thank them all from the bottom of my heart.
My husband had a very good experience at Blackheath after two strokes. He made a full recovery — walking, talking and eating perfectly again.
My husband Andy was admitted to Blackheath for a brain haemorrhage. The care and compassion of all the staff was outstanding, and his physiotherapist encouraged him every step of the way. We were blessed to have been sent here.
I went into the centre following a stroke, in a wheelchair and unable to walk or move my arm. I left able to walk and look after myself again. The staff are miracle workers – I couldn’t fault this place. I’m so grateful to have been sent there.
